Purple Haze
February 18th, 2009I’ve just discovered this extraordinary carrot, ‘Purple Haze’. The traditional orange remains inside the carrot whilst the amazing purple is seen on the outside. Rich in Vitamin A and antioxidants it is ideal for children to grow as it is so unusual. They are especially sweet when eaten raw in salads.
These carrots closely resemble the original colour of carrots, until the Dutch growers of the 17th century came up with bright orange carrots as a tribute to William I, Prince of Orange. Think I might well try growing this one myself this season.
